Fresh off a frustrating Week 1 loss in Jacksonville, the Cleveland Browns are heading right back to Florida for a Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a familiar face in Baker Mayfield.
As the team returned to the practice field on Wednesday, health concerns along the offensive line immediately stole the spotlight once again.
Here is the full breakdown of Cleveland's initial injury report for Week 2
.Did not participate
- Right Guard Teven Jenkins (Back)
Teven Jenkins remained sidelined on Wednesday as he continues to deal with a lingering back issue.
However, his availability no longer carries the same urgency for the starting unit. Jenkins has officially lost his starting right guard job to third-round rookie Austin Barber following Barber's nod in Week 1.
While losing depth is never
ideal, Jenkins' absence won't alter Cleveland's starting dynamic on the right side of the line this Sunday.
Limited practice
- Center Parker Brailsford (Thumb)
- Defensive Tackle Maliek Collins (Quad)
- Center Elgton Jenkins (Back)
- Left Tackle Dawand Jones (Head)
While Teven Jenkins' status at right guard is manageable, new injuries across the rest of the offensive line do not bode well for the offense as they prepare to battle in the Bay.
Starting center Elgton Jenkins popped up on the report with a back injury of his own, while backup left tackle Dawand Jones was limited with a head issue. Add in backup center Parker Brailsford, who remains limited with a thumb injury, and four separate offensive linemen are currently carrying health designations.
On defense, Maliek Collins was limited once again with his quad injury as the staff continues to carefully manage his workload following last year's severe tear.
Full participation
- Left Guard Zion Johnson (Knee)
- Wide Receiver Jerry Jeudy (Wrist)
The good news along the offensive line comes at left guard, where starter Zion Johnson was able to practice fully despite a knee designation. Having Johnson locked in helps, but the overall health of the interior protection remains a primary concern.
On the perimeter, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was also a full participant with a wrist issue, clearing the way for him to be a full go against Tampa Bay's secondary.
Notably absent from the list was reigning Rookie Defensive Player of the Year Carson Schwesinger.
Despite clearly favoring his shoulder during Sunday's loss to the Jaguars, Schwesinger avoided the injury report altogether today after being listed with a shoulder designation all of last week.
With two more practices remaining before Sunday's showdown in Tampa, keeping a close eye on the trench health will be paramount. Stick with us at Browns Wire for continuous updates and practice reports throughout the week.
