The Cleveland Browns are enjoying a smooth 4-2 start to the season, but have had to have some magic happen to get there. For one player specifically, Dehshawn Watson, that start has made him the center of attention in their hot start. He has not played extremely well, but he has played well enough to win games for them.
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton discussed several contracts and players who could be dealing with various rumors, and he discussed Watson. He approached the idea of the Browns looking to re-sign their franchise leader after his hot start, but he wasn't buying it.
He writes, "The Browns have two 2027 first-round picks: their own and one from the 2-4 Los Angeles Rams. They may prefer drafting a quarterback on a rookie deal over re-signing
Watson, who's solid but still less than the three-time Pro Bowl player from his Houston Texans years. Watson will need to significantly increase his passing production and lead the Browns to a playoff win to earn serious consideration for a new deal in Cleveland, which seems like an improbable task."
The Browns seem to enjoy having Watson, but getting out of that contract and not going back is the go-to approach. Drafting one in 2027 with their two picks, as Moton mentions, makes the most sense.
