If you thought the weather conditions in East Rutherford was terrible, the Cleveland Brownsā performance was outright agonizing.
In a sloppy, wet, 17-12 loss to the New York Jets, Cleveland managed to lose a game even messier than the field they played on. The defense fought tooth and nail to hand the offense opportunities on a silver platter, but constant execution breakdowns, poor pocket management, and catastrophic failures doomed the Browns to a frustrating road defeat.
Here is who came to play in the sludge, and who dragged the team down with them.
Studs
Linebacker Quincy Williams
Playing with an unmistakable chip on his shoulder against his former team, Quincy Williams played like a man possessed. He spearheaded Cleveland's defensive effort by racking
up 11 total tackles (7 solo, 4 assisted), a tackle for loss, a pass breakup, and a staggering three forced fumbles.

Williams was landing bone-crushing hits all afternoon, continually tearing the ball free and giving his team every chance to seize momentum in his revenge game.
Defensive Tackle Maliek Collins
With the defensive line banged up, Maliek Collins stepped up and dominated the interior of the Jets' offensive line. Collins was a backfield disruptor from start to finish, generating four total tackles (2 solo, 2 assisted), two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks.

Linebacker Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger delivered another stellar outing alongside Williams, showcasing why he has quickly become an indispensable part of this defense. Schwesinger logged eight total tackles (5 solo, 3 assisted), a tackle for loss, a pass breakup, and a huge strip-sack late in the game.

In a tight contest trailing in the fourth quarter, that strip-sack should have been the defining turning point for Cleveland, though the offense's failure to convert it into points squandered his heroic effort.
Duds
Safety Ronnie Hickman Jr.
It was a rough outing for the safety, whose missed tackles directly put the Browns behind the 8-ball early. Most notably on the Jets' opening drive, Hickman whiffed on a critical tackle against Garrett Wilson, allowing the wideout to break free and waltz effortlessly into the end zone for a touchdown.
Wide Receiver Isaiah Bond
While Bond technically finished as the team's leader in receiving yards, the box score lies about his true impact. He was plagued by a case of the drops in brutal weather, letting several catchable balls slip through his hands at pivotal moments.

In a game decided by just five points, converting even one of those crucial missed opportunities into a sustained drive could have completely flipped the script.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson
This was Watson's most discouraging performance since the season opener. His internal clock was completely broken, holding onto the ball far too long, consistently failing to recognize incoming blitzers, and taking unnecessary sacks and pressures as a result.

Worse yet, he repeatedly tried to force scramble drills when the structure collapsed, refusing to let dead plays die and wasting precious downs rather than taking what the defense gave him.
Right Tackle Dawand Jones
Beginning the afternoon on the bench, Jones was forced into action when starter Tytus Howard went down with an injury. To say he failed to answer the call would be an understatement.

Jones offered a stark reminder of why he lost the starting job. His lack of lateral athleticism exposed him against quick edge rushers, his massive frame acted more as a target than a wall, and his hand placement lacked the heavy pop required to compensate for his movement limitations.
