Those hoping to see a vintage, Houston-like Deshaun Watson performance on Sunday were sorely mistaken. In Watson's first NFL start in almost 700 days, he looked horrific in every aspect of the game as Cleveland lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-10. After such an awful start, what does his QB grade look like?
Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report released his Week 1 QB grades, and Watson's grade came in at an F, which is right on the money. Here are a few excerpts from his grade:
Watson looked uncomfortable in the team's offense. He had no feel for the pocket, which made life so much harder on a brand new offensive line.
The decision to start Watson already felt out of place and forced due to the circumstances of him still being on the roster. The Browns
simply need to get past the previous trade and terrible contract extension. They're sunk cost. The organization must move forward with someone else behind center. Otherwise, Watson's status will be the primary discussion point each and every week.
We knew that Watson is beyond a former shell of himself, but Sunday's performance was almost embarrassing, especially for head coach Todd Monken. He probably should have been pulled at halftime, and instead, Watson somehow has earned another start. Expect the boo birds to be loud on Sunday when things go poorly once again.
