The Cleveland Browns have had several notable kickers and special teams players in their history. Perhaps the most notable pairing of impact players was in the mid-2000s, when they had kick returner Josh Cribbs and kicker Phil Dawson. The latter was Mr. Consistency for the Browns for 14 seasons before moving on to the San Francisco 49ers.
During that stretch, Dawson set two Browns records in terms of his consistency. The Athletic's Zac Jackson shared that Dawson holds the top two consecutive made field goal streaks in franchise history with 27 and 29, respectively. However, Andre Szmyt is now hot in his heels after Week 4.
Szmyt’s currently on a streak of 22 made field goals in a row. He could surpass Dawson's record over the next couple of games
if the offense keeps up it's current momentum.
To the joy of every Browns fan, the 22nd field goal in this streak by Szmyt was a new career-long and a game-winner from 56 yards. The journey of Andre Szmyt is a storybook one after he was undrafted in 2023 and had to end up in the UFL before finding his potential forever home with the Browns.
Now, he's on the cusp of franchise history.
