The Cleveland Browns' defense has been one of the NFL's best units for several years. Of course, Myles Garrett and Jim Schwartz were a great pairing, but in 2026 they have to move forward and see what they can achieve without them.
One of the key pieces they were banking on having in 2026 to help opposite Jared Verse, who they got in the trade package for Garrett, was Alex Wright. Sadly, on Sunday, news broke that the Browns are now looking for new help this season.
After going down in practice Thursday, Aug. 20, reports came out today that he suffered a ruptured Achilles and will miss the entire 2026 season. Wright signed a three-year, $33 million extension with the Browns in November and figured to be a part of their defense in a big way this
season and beyond.
Achilles injuries can be tough to come back from, but players today are bouncing back quicker than before.
In his absence, however, the Browns have few options. Free agents could make sense if they decide they need outside help.
