The Ohio State basketball team opens its 2026-2027 season tonight with a road game against a Top-25 opponent. The Buckeyes travel to Salt Lake City to take on No. 25 BYU.
The season brings many questions after the team lost four-year starter and all-time leading scorer Bruce Thornton to the NBA. At the same time, there is much excitement about this team, with some great young talent. John Mobley Jr. and Amare Bynum will be expected to step up in place of Thornton, while big things are expected from five-star freshman Anthony Thompson.
BYU is coming off a solid 2025-2026 season that saw the team earn a No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament. However, the Cougars are replacing much of last year's talent, including first overall pick AJ Dybantsa and second-round
pick Richie Saunders.
This will be a tough test for Ohio State as the game will be played less than an hour away from BYU's campus. An early-season matchup such as this is always a good measuring stick to see where a team is at.
Here's how to find all the action for the season opener of Buckeye basketball.
