The Ohio State basketball team got good news this week as newcomer Josh Ojianwuna has been fully cleared for all basketball-related activities. According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Ojianwuna is now back on the floor in full capacity.
Ojianwuna played in a very limited capacity during the Buckeyes' trip to Puerto Rico after not playing at all last year while recovering from a serious knee injury in the 2024-25 season. The 6-foot-10 and 270-pound center averaged 7.4 points and 6.4 rebounds a game as a junior in 2024-25 and made 24 starts across 87 games during his Baylor career.
In three years, he averaged 5.3 points and 4.2 rebounds a game.
Ojianwuna is one of numerous newcomers to the Ohio State roster and will play a critical
role with the depth and physicality of the frontcourt for head coach Jake Diebler.
The Buckeyes will be tested early and often with their season-opener against BYU, which follows two exhibitions against Cincinnati and Butler. UConn, Vanderbilt and Kansas -- all likely top-25 teams -- are in the nonconference schedule as well.
Ohio State, which is looking to follow up its NCAA Tournament berth last year with another positive step this season, has the talent to make a run -- even seeing its potential ceiling with a deep run during March Madness.
While Ojianwuna won't be a huge factor from a points standpoint, his veteran presence will play a big role on and off the court, especially during significant early-season matchups as the team still finds its footing with so many new additions to the roster.
