One of Ohio State's biggest recruiting targets for the 2028 class has set a commitment date. Five-star quarterback Christopher Vargas will announce his college of choice on Saturday, August 8, and the Buckeyes seem to be in a very good position.
Hailing from St. John's Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts, Vargas is the No. 1-rated quarterback according to 247Sports composite rankings. As of now, Ohio State is seen as the overwhelming favorite to land a verbal pledge from the highly touted prospect. Recruiting experts Steve Wiltfong, Chad Simmons, and Adam Gorney have all logged crystal ball predictions for Vargas to pick the Scarlet and Gray when he commits this weekend.
With a long list of suitors, Vargas also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia,
Oregon, Michigan, and others. However, it's the relationship with the Buckeye coaching staff that might make the difference. Vargas recently shared a little insight with Eleven Warriors, saying of Ohio State coaches, "I've been building relationships with them for probably two years or three years now," Vargas said. "It's been great."

In his sophomore year, Vargas threw for 2,083 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. With two more years of high school remaining, he'll continue to improve on what are already impressive stats for the youngster. After Saturday, he will shed a good bit of the pressure that comes with being recruited at such a high level and focus fully on developing his craft.
