The 'Block O' jersey is a pretty cool new tradition at Ohio State, started back in 2020 when the NCAA permitted college football players to wear the No. 0 jersey. Most reading this probably already know, but it honors former Buckeye defensive end and Columbus native Bill Willis, who broke the color barrier in the NFL as the first person of color to start in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns.
This year's recipient is Brandon Inniss, a South Florida native who came to Columbus as a five-star recruit. He has yet to really break out and reach his potential, but this could be the year. More than that, though, Inniss was awarded the 'Block O' for how he conducts himself and how he exemplifies what it means to be a Buckeye, showing "toughness, accountability,
and the highest of character."
The OSU creative team dug a little deeper into this story and Innis on social media, and it's a video worth watching if you haven't done so. In it, Ryan Day explains the "Block O" jersey tradition and shows the moment Inniss was honored. It then goes a little further into what it means for Inniss and his background.
