Ohio State is moving forward with the expectation that quarterback Julian Sayin will miss the rest of the season and will be out indefinitely.
"We aren't going to put any timeline on his recovery but he's out indefinitely," Ryan Day said on Monday night. " ... based on the nature of the injury, we're putting together a plan for him not being available for the regular season and him not being available for the postseason."
Sayin injured his throwing arm late in the Buckeyes 19-15 win over Indiana on Saturday and missed the last series of the game. True freshman Luke Fahey entered for Ohio State and was 0-of-2 in his one full series.
Sayin had thrown for 2,007 yards with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions, two coming against Indiana. He completed
68.2 percent of his passes this season.
“This is all bigger than just one person,” Day continued. “Certainly we don’t want to see (Sayin) get hurt, and we need him. At the same time, we’ll come together and figure this out. We’ve got a good team. When Luke’s in there, we just may need to do things just a little bit differently, but the bye week gives us a chance to regroup on that and put our heads together.”
Ohio State enters the back half of the season at 6-1 and No. 3 in the country following its Indiana win.
Fahey, a former three-star recruit, is 9-of-13 passing for 202 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions this season in backup duties.
Ohio State has road game against No. 16 USC this weekend, then heads back home to face Oregon and Northwestern, before its final road game of the season against Nebraska. The final game of the season is at home against Michigan.
