We may still be in the grind of football season at Ohio State, but the basketball season is just around the corner. For further proof of that, the Buckeyes
took to the hardcourt on Wednesday night for an exhibition against the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Caresource Invitational at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. Following the Buckeyes and Bearcats, Xavier took on Dayton in the four-team all-Ohio event. There were some good things from Ohio State, but the Buckeyes couldn't finish the deal despite leading for the majority of the game, allowing Cincinnati to go on a run during the last ten minutes of the second half to pull away for a 79-68 win over OSU.
John Mobley Jr. led the Buckeyes in scoring with 15 points. No other Ohio State
player finished in double figures, with eleven players getting on the court. Amare Bynum and freshman LJ Smith both had nine points apiece, while highly touted 5-star freshman Anthony Thompson scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting in 20 minutes of play.
Taking too much out of these preseason exhibitions would be foolish. Though Ohio State would love to win any time there's a score being kept, a lot of these games are used to figure out what kind of bench you have, define roles for players, and work on some things to see how it works in real game action.
Ohio State vs. Cincinnati basketball exhibition box score
