The kicking job and Tyler Bass have a lot of questions surrounding it as the Buffalo Bills inch closer toward the start of the 2026 NFL regular season.
Plenty of that is natural from onlookers. Bass did not play at all last season because of a hernia injury.
Bass has had periods of strong play during his Bills career and he deserves a grace period. Unfortunately that's not the reality of how fast results are demanded in the modern NFL.
During Buffalo's second preseason outing of the summer, a 31-7 win over the Cleveland Browns, Bass connected on his lone field goal from 52 yards and hit all of his extra points. Prior to that, the Bills and Browns held a joint practice and Bass did miss a few kicks causing some concern.
Despite the up-and-down play,
Buffalo head coach Joe Brady has continued to stay positive about the kicking game.
"He's got the right mentality, he doesn't blink," Brady said after beating the Browns. "He didn't blink. He had a really good game."
"A lot of trust in him," Brady added.
Bass himself told The Athletic that he remains positive, too. In fact, even when missing kicks, Bass said he finds the good in the situation.
“I’ve done it for a while, made a lot of kicks, missed kicks,” Bass said. "Even having a miss in the preseason game, I was grateful just to feel that. It’s been a while."
