When it comes to who he'd most want to coach, former long-time Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has one quarterback at the top of his list.
Tomlin's choice appeared a no-brainer, as he quickly replied it that it was none other than Buffalo's Josh Allen.
The longtime Steelers head coach, who stepped away from the sideline after 19 seasons to become an analyst in 2026, said the Bills star is the young passer he would most want on his sideline.
Appearing on the PFF NFL Show, Tomlin explained that Allen is "built for this" because of his rare combination of arm talent and mobility. At 30 years old, Allen has already won an MVP and spent the past six seasons near the top of the league.
The praise comes at a time when the Bills are trying to maximize
Allen's prime and Buffalo's Super Bowl window.
The team replaced Sean McDermott with Joe Brady this offseason, believing that a new offensive voice with standout CEO qualatities that won him the job in the interview process can finally push the roster over the top. Tomlin, meanwhile, isn't technically a free agent. He remains under contract with the Steelers, which means another team would have to trade for his rights before he could take a new job.
While that makes some sort of coaching role pairing with Allen unlikely in the near future, the praise from a coach who had Super Bowl success with a similar big QB in Ben Rothlisberger notable.
Tomlin acknowledged that Allen stretches the definition of a young quarterback. Eight seasons into his career, Allen is already established as one of the NFL's best dual-threat passers.
The respect from a coach who never posted a losing season in Pittsburgh speaks volumes. Tomlin's next coaching opportunity will more than likely draw interest whenever it arrives.
Allen, meanwhile,has the league's attention, including from one of its most accomplished coaches. The Bills will open the regular season trying to prove this roster is built around him for the long haul.
