The Buffalo Bills are looking at an entirely new dynamic in the AFC East after New England Patriots star A.J. Brown went down with a high-ankle sprain during his team's season opener last week.
Brown was placed on injured reserve by the Patriots (0-1), which will keep him out of action for at least the next four weeks. The Patriots reached the Super Bowl last season, coming out on top in the entire AFC, while the Bills were defeated by the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs.
In the new season, the Bills (1-0) have an improved opportunity to take an early lead in the AFC East as a result of the bad news that landed on the Patriots’ doorstep.
Brown’s absence removes one of New England’s most important offensive weapons and places
added pressure on the Patriots’ remaining receivers. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will need other targets to take on larger roles, particularly in critical passing situations and near the goal line. Without Brown’s presence on the outside, opposing defenses may have more freedom to focus on stopping New England’s running game and disrupting its passing attack.
For Buffalo, the injury does not guarantee anything, but it makes a quick start even more valuable. The Bills can strengthen their position by winning early games and taking advantage of a division rival adjusting to a major personnel loss.
