The Buffalo Bills released safety CJ Gardner-Johnson.
On the surface level, it's easy to explain why.
Gardner-Johnson's spitting incident against the Las Vegas Raiders took place in Week 6. The following weekend was Buffalo's bye week and Gardner-Johnson's suspension from the NFL was not fulfilled during that. After serving it against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8, Buffalo decided to cut ties with him
.NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe has since dug deeper into why the Bills (6-1) decided now was the right time to release Gardner-Johnson.
Wolfe explained it was not just about the suspension. Play on the field factored in.
"It was not worth it for this Bills team any more," Wolfe said.
