2025 recap
Deone Walker played way ahead of schedule last year as a fourth-round
rookie. In 2025, he produced eight tackles for loss, 39 combined tackles, four passes defensed, four QB hits, a fumble recovery, and a sack. According to Pro Football Focus, he logged the 76th-most snaps by a defensive tackle (464) but accounted for the eighth-most batted passes (4). Walker appeared in every game as a rookie, and started both playoff games. He recorded an interception in the playoff game vs. the Denver Broncos.
2026 outlook
After an impressive rookie campaign and a good offseason, Walker will now start at nose tackle for the Bills as they transition to Jim Leonhard's 3-4 defense. It's an important spot, especially given the lack of depth the Bills have at the position beyond Walker. They have DeWayne Carter, who's unproven in the NFL, and Greg Gaines who was just signed by the Bills on August 18.
The hope for Walker's 2026 is that he continues to develop as a pro while also taking advantage of more one-on-one matchups in Leonhard's system.
Biggest question: Will he get help in the middle of the line?
While Walker is a massive human being at 6-7, 331 pounds, he can still win with lateral quickness and get into the backfield in a hurry. He slipped in the 2025 draft due to an injury-riddled down year in 2024 at Kentucky, but Bills GM Brandon Beane had seen enough of his good film from 2023 to not be deterred away. While the back injury didn't seem to bother Walker in 2025, the Bills want to keep it that way. It would be great for the Bills if Gaines, who won a Super Bowl at nose tackle for the Rams, provided valuable relief to keep Walker fresh so he can continue to cause backfield havoc when he gets the chance.
