The Buffalo Bills have an off-field issue brewing involving quarterback Josh Allen...
... or do they?
Joe Brady was promoted to head coach after the firing of Sean McDermott earlier this offseason. Brady has been there for years, but he's still a younger head coach at 36 years old. On top of that, Allen has tenure on Brady within the Bills organization.
Taking that into account, Mike Sando, NFL insider for The Athletic, noted the dynamic in the Bills' locker room might be off.
Sando suggested that Allen's talent as an MVP winner, combined with their previous relationship as QB-offensive coordinator, might be an issue because it leads to Allen having too much of a say.
"I think that is an interesting transition to make, when clearly before with (Bills
ex-coach) Sean McDermott, he was in charge, also a defensive pedigree," Sando said.
Then Sando noted that there might be something already stirring regarding this.
“I’ve heard whispers and people complaining a little bit in the league about the fact Josh Allen gets to kind of do the pass protections how he wants them, I think that’s been a little bit of a source of frustration on the staff, at times, in the past. Is that a good or a bad thing, if that’s enabled more? Those would be the concerns," Sando said.
Based on Sando's logic, that is the proof of an issue. But is it?
A quarterback that has won the NFL's MVP Award and one who is routinely ranked as one of best players in the entire league regardless of position has or wants a say in the pass protection around... and that's an issue? Beyond that, why would that be a bad desire from Allen?
"Breaking news, star quarterback wants to make sure pass protection is to his liking and he's on the same page as his team..."
That's nonsense.
