Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau has been on a historic run to start his sixth NFL season.
The sixth-year edge rusher has six sacks through three games, the most in the league, logging two in each outing. Only Mark Gastineau in 1984 and Kevin Greene in 1998 had opened a season with three straight multi-sack games since sacks became an official stat in 1982.
Four of Rousseau's six sacks have also come on third down, which is a sight for sore eyes amongst Bills fans that have seen Buffalo's defensive unit struggle in the past to get meaningful stops on key downs during QB Josh Allen's career.
And while he's wrapping up and sacking opposing quarterbacks for Buffalo, Rousseau shared in an interview this week with NFL Insider Jordan Shultz on The Schultz
Report that there was another career path he was exploring prior to being selected by the Bills at 30th overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.
The NFL sack leader told Shultz that he would work as an FBI agent if he were not playing in the NFL.
"I'd be an FBI agent for sure" he said. "That's that's what my major was in at Miami. Criminal justice."
He mentioned cited watching crime and intelligence shows like True Detective to analyze cases as a source of inspiration for what might have been an alternative career path.
"Let's say you watch like True Detective season one or whatever and see how like they're not FBI, but it's like it's fire. You know what I'm saying? Like that's like cool. That's like cool to be."
Rousseau switched positions this offseason in new Bills defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard's 3-4 hybrid scheme to lineup as an outside linebacker. The move has paid off big for Buffalo.
"He's on a heater," Leonhard said Monday to reporters following the team's win over the Chargers. "You never know when those are going to end, and he's playing with a ton of confidence."
"You just see a guy who's kind of… I don't want to say coming into his own, but (who) you see getting a lot of attention that's rightly deserved," the DC added.
It may be hard to imagine a giant athlete like "Groot" as an FBI Agent, but Bills fans can rest easy knowing the path he's taken to the NFL was the right one.
"Blessed, man. God is good. Just being able to go out there and play play fast, cut it loose, just go. It's been great. Just trying to keep on stacking, keep on getting better every week," Rousseau said about his big start this season.
