The Buffalo Bills have elevated running back Frank Gore Jr. and receiver Greg Dortch to their active roster, promoting both from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s season opener against the Houston Texans.
The team announced the two roster moves on Saturday.
Gore gives Buffalo additional insurance in the backfield as the club prepares for its first game of the season. His elevation provides another available option alongside James Cook, Ray Davis and Ty Johnson. Cook led the league in rushing yards last season and will handle the lion share of duties in the Bills’ offensive backfield against the Texans. Davis and Johnson are positioned as his backups. Gore has yet to play in a game in the NFL in his career.
Dortch supplies depth at receiver while
also offering potential value on special teams. Known for his speed and agility, he will be another potential option for Josh Allen to utilize against Houston, in a wide receiver room led by DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman.
The promotions allow the Bills to carry both players into the Houston game without making permanent changes to the 53-man roster.
Buffalo begins the season on the road with an opportunity to set an early tone in the AFC. Gore and Dortch now have a chance to contribute as the Bills look to open their season with a victory.
