Buffalo Bills cornerback Max Hairston caught many off guard on Monday after a poor showing against the New England Patriots.
The Bills (3-1) suffered their first loss of the 2026 NFL season against the Patriots in a 29-26 final last week. After the game, Hairston left the locker room instead of speaking to reporters. Some might debate the importance of that, but it shows a lack of accountability.
On Monday before the Bills could turn their attention to their upcoming game against the LA Rams (2-2), Hairston surprised many by taking the podium and apologizing for that.
Doing so did not only impress those who cover the team, the Bills' locker room respected it.
"Accountability is literally the most important thing in the sport," Buffalo head coach
Joe Brady said via video conference. "We can't just enjoy the good and not want to handle the bad. That's part of it."
As for moving forward, Buffalo needs Hairston to rebound as the Bills face a tough task ahead in the Rams' passing attack. It includes the likes of quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua.
The Bills are confident in Hairston. Cornerback Christian Benford said feeling that way doesn't even require words.
"He know how to bounce back," Benford said. "That's the life of a DB."
