The Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings will continue their 2026 NFL regular season schedules on Monday when the two teams do battle at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 9 on "Monday Night Football."
Like there will be every week, there are plenty of expected headlines that will pop up during the days leading up to this one between the Bills (6-1) and Vikings (6-1). Yes, some will be obvious... but others not so much.
With that, here are Bills Wire's five storylines to watch for ahead of Week 9:
Monday Night Football again
It's another "Monday Night Football" occasion on the road for the Bills in 2026. Buffalo came out on top in a 37-34 final on MNF in Week 5.
While the Bills and their fans have become accustomed to prime-time football in recent years, there is still always an added
sense of urgency. For one reason in particular, there will be even more so for this one...
Another "Super Bowl preview" headline
That teaser relates to here. It's the NFL and what the national media does. But the Bills and Vikings are two of the best teams in their respective conferences.
Buffalo and Minnesota are two teams that share a narrative relating to the Super Bowl as well: The two teams that have lost in four of them and have yet to win a title.
Expect to see the "Super Bowl preview" narrative tossed around during the lead up to kickoff.
Which QB do the Bills prep for?
The Vikings have a quarterback question heading into Monday.
Starter Kyler Murray has not had the best start to the year and now he is dealing with a hamstring injury. The injury report for the Vikings will be watched in Buffalo and Minnesota throughout this week for good reason.
If Murray can't go, it will be backup Carson Wentz. If the Vikings keep their cards close to their chest, that is a curve ball for the Bills. Which QB does Buffalo prepare for?
That aggressive defense
The Bills have plenty of reason to be confident about their offense with the talent they have such as quarterback Josh Allen and running back James Cook. But they will have their hands full against the Vikings.
The aggressive Minnesota defense leads the NFL in fewest points allowed per game (13.3), sack percentage (10.96%) and QB pressure rate (45.8%) and second in yards (271.6).
For those curious, the Bills offense is second in yards (393.1) and first in points per game (33.3).
This could be a heck of a battle.
Life without CJ
The Bills did not have CJ Gardner-Johnson in their 36-10 win against the Baltimore Ravens last week. That was because of his one-game suspension handed out by the NFL.
Now he's not on Buffalo's roster, period. The Bills released Gardner-Johnson.
Does the secondary look better and even improve without him? Expect Damar Hamlin to again see plenty of snaps without Gardner-Johnson in the equation anymore.
