Joe Brady’s first game as Buffalo Bills head coach ended with a sprint into the tunnel after a tense 36-31 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Brady left the field shortly after the Bills sealed the win in the closing seconds of the game, bringing an end to a dramatic season-opening contest that featured multiple lead changes and a late defensive stand in a 36-31 final.
Brady led Buffalo to a big win against one of their toughest foes in the AFC. The Bills tested their strength against an elite Texans defense and prevailed with big play from Josh Allen and company.
Buffalo trailed 31-30 late in the fourth quarter before Josh Allen directed the team’s decisive final drive of the affair. Allen connected with Joshua Palmer for a 34-yard touchdown
with 1:36 remaining, putting the Bills ahead for the final time. Houston had one last opportunity to respond, but Buffalo’s defense closed the door when Greg Rousseau forced a fumble from Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and Terrel Bernard recovered it.
Allen powered the Bills offense with four total touchdowns. He threw two scoring passes and added two rushing touchdowns, repeatedly helping Buffalo respond whenever Houston threatened to take control.
The victory gave Brady an emotional first win in charge of the Bills. Rather than remaining on the field for an extended celebration, he quickly headed toward the locker room as players and coaches celebrated around him.
Buffalo’s opener offered an early illustration of Brady’s acumen as coach of the team, signified by him guiding his talented roster through high-pressure moments. On Sunday, his team delivered when it mattered most, giving its new head coach a memorable start to the year.
