Anyone hoping the Buffalo Bills would potentially add safety Derwin James at the 2026 NFL trade deadline has received some bad news.
The Bills (5-1) approach the Nov. 10 deadline as a team that could stand to improve defensively, specifically in the secondary. The LA Chargers (0-6) have James in their defensive backfield and could they move him considering the way their season has gone?
James, a two-time All-Pro defender, would be a strong addition for a team with a struggling secondary. However, he has dealt with a hamstring injury as of a late and it has gotten worse.
LA head coach Jim Harbaugh announced this week that James has had a "setback" in his recovery. That might lead to him landing on injured reserve:
Wednesday injury updates from #Chargers
HC Jim Harbaugh: Derwin James had a setback in his return from hamstring injury and might be going to IR. Awosika, Thompson and Leonard won’t practice today.

James is likely off any list of potential trade targets for the Bills or any NFL team at the deadline at this point.
