The Buffalo Bills continue their 2025 NFL season with a matchup against the Detroit Lions at home at Highmark Stadium in Week 2. It will be a Thursday Night Football affair.
While game plans, coaching, and strategy will play a part, but sometimes a big emphasis will sit with some individual players. In terms of the Bills defense, who could those be?
Here are three potential X-factors on the Bills (1-0) defense against the Lions (1-0) on Thursday:
RB James Cook
The Bills leaned on the passing game in Week 1. Cook is a fantastic running back and can do his part, too. Not only would getting a talented player be a smart idea, it could catch the Lions off guard and make sure Buffalo wins the time of possession.
OL Dion Dawkins
This is not meant to fuel or disrespect the Lions but
pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson is by far the biggest threat Detroit has on defense. If Dawkins can neutralize him from the game plan, that would go a very far way for the Bills.
QB Josh Allen
It is the low-hanging fruit. The quarterback always is an X-factor. But Allen is here for a reason.
The last time the Bills and Lions met in 2024, it was a 48-42 final.
