Two practices into Bills training camp at St. John Fisher University, the one of the most important relationships on the roster is trending in the right direction.
Josh Allen and DJ Moore are connecting on offense for Buffalo.
Camp opened July 29, and the connection didn't take long to show up. Allen missed Moore on a couple of early throws but the completions started arriving before long.
"Just each day that goes by, we're gonna try to continue to get more comfortable with each other," Allen said after the first practice.
The Bills haven't had a true outside WR1 since trading Stefon Diggs after the 2023 season. Khalil Shakir is an explosive slot weapon, Keon Coleman remains a projection, and newly added Moore was traded for to be the answer to a problem
Buffalo has papered over since Diggs' departure.
Moore's early returns on playing with Allen were positive as well.
"I want to say they're on the ups. The first two days have been really good, so we just got to keep building on that and go from there," Moore shared as well in his media session.
The veteran pass catcher arrives with previous history with Buffalo's new head coach. Joe Brady was Moore's offensive coordinator in Carolina, where the receiver cleared 1,150 receiving yards in both of those seasons.
Allen and Moore first crossed paths during the 2018 NFL Draft process. The real work started when OTAs opened in early April and continued through the spring, when Allen called Moore "as smooth of a football player as I've ever been around" at June minicamp.
Buffalo's offense has developed under Brady and has needed a receiver who wins outside the numbers, and in January, when the field shrinks and Allen's improvisation gets squeezed.
Building a rhythm and connection is are good first steps toward the Allen-Moore partnership showing up on field during the regular season.
Buffalo is off Friday, July 31, and returns to the practice field at St. John Fisher on Saturday.
