The New York Giants are preparing to host the Dallas Cowboys for the regular-season opener at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night with the hope of breaking a shocking streak.
Since the opening of the $1.6 billion stadium, the Giants have hosted seven regular-season opening games in East Rutherford. As has been the case for Big Blue in general over the last decade plus, they haven't fared too well in Week 1 home games.
In fact, the Giants haven't won a Week 1 home game since they beat the Carolina Panthers, 31-18, to begin the 2010 season. That was also the very first game played at MetLife Stadium, which was known as New Meadowlands Stadium at the time.

In other words, the Giants are due.
Of course, the notion of "something's gotta give" doesn't necessarily apply here. The Giants could simply continue to lose when they host the Cowboys in prime time on Sunday night.
The hope, though, is that the new coaching staff led by John Harbaugh and the electric play of Jaxson Dart can help usher in a new era of Big Blue football that will put this streak to an end.
It won't be an easy task for the Giants, who opened the week as home underdogs, but it would be quite the statement if they came out with a Week 1 win over their division rivals.
