New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh revealed why the team brought free agent cornerback Terrion Arnold in for a tryout on Wednesday after training camp practice.
Harbaugh said the Giants are looking for players who can consistently make a difference.
"Because we want to be aggressive in every way, whatever we can do, find everything out we can about any situation a player that can help us be better. I would say that's it," he told reporters. "The margins are tight in the National Football League. You try to win a game."
The Detroit Lions selected Arnold with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The 23-year-old was limited to eight games in 2025, recording one interception and eight passes defensed.
Arnold was waived by the Lions on June
29, shortly after facing multiple felony charges stemming from a kidnapping and robbery at an apartment building in Tampa, Florida, in February. The case has not yet gone to trial, and Arnold faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.
"That's something that the organization has also studied very deeply. I've got an overview of it," Harbaugh said. "The organization has looked at it in depth. If there is a decision to be made on any player that -- if you don't want to go there with a player, then this organization, they won't go there.
"And so, that decision would also have to be made. Just understanding everything that goes on with that. It's more than just what you read in the papers, though. I mean, you got to find out exactly where everything stands. And I think I do know that our people do a great job of that."
The Giants evaluated the Tallahassee native just before the team's first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.
