The New York Giants absorbed more than a 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night. Several of their most important players left the field with injuries, leaving the locker room with an uncertain week ahead.
Edge rusher Brian Burns was helped off late with a left ankle injury. Head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that the veteran suffered a sprained ankle.
"It's a sprained ankle," Harbaugh said. "It's low, but the fact that it's low makes me happy."
Burns later left SoFi Stadium in a walking boot and was driven toward the team bus on a golf cart, reports ESPN's Jordan Raanan. He was able to walk off under his own power, a sign the ankle was stable enough to bear weight. He was also seen on the bench with a wrap on the ankle after
exiting.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas departed with a groin injury. Asked about Thomas' availability, Harbaugh stayed noncommittal.
"We'll see about that. Again, none of these injuries are life-threatening," he said.
Thomas had been healthy through the spring and summer after an injury-plagued stretch earlier in his career.
Wide receiver Malik Nabers provided a scare in the second quarter when he appeared to injure his shoulder. He returned after being checked on the sideline. After the game, Nabers said he popped the shoulder back into place.
"My shoulder's okay. Gonna get an X-ray on it, see what's going on. I was out there, trying to just come back out. We had lost Jax, so I didn't want to give the team another loss," he said.
The injuries piled on, with quarterback Jaxson Dart leaving with a knee issue and rookie linebacker Arvell Reese also temporarily banged up.
The injured four rank among the Giants' most important players. More clarity is expected as the team returns from Los Angeles and begins preparing for Week 3.
