The New York Giants are signing free agent wide receiver Dontae Fleming to their practice squad after he recently worked out for the club, USA TODAY's Art Stapleton reports.
The Giants have only four wide receivers on the active roster, Malik Nabers, Malachi Fields, Darnell Mooney, and Charlie Jones, and now three on the practice squad (Jalin Hyatt, Dalen Cambre, and Fleming), with Braxton Berrios landing on injured reserve (IR) in the coming days.
Berrios took to social media to update fans that he will undergo season-ending foot surgery.
"Today also brought news that I need a surgery that’ll end my season. Two of my last three seasons ended this way and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t miserable right now," Berrios wrote on Instagram. "I felt
I belonged here this year and everything finally fell in place; now it feels like everything I’ve poured into the last (nine) months is gone in the blink of an eye.
"The timing that I thought had arrived feels like a punishment again, but the good news about God is I know it’s coming. Maybe not when we want, but always on time. Time to rebuild."
Fleming went undrafted last year and spent last season on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad. This summer, Fleming failed to make the roster and was waived/injured.
Fleming stands at 6-foot-2 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He ran a 4.44-second 40-yard dash at his pro day at Tulane.
