Belichick spent the early portion of his career with the Giants as defensive coordinator. The late Dan Reeves served as the Giants’ head coach from 1993 to 1996.
Coughlin reached the semifinals at this time last year but was not elected in his sixth year of eligibility.
He established himself
as one of the most respected coaches in the league by winning two Super Bowls during his tenure as Giants head coach from 2004 to 2015. Coughlin compiled a 102-90 regular-season record and an 8-3 playoff mark, capturing titles in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.
Coughlin began his NFL head-coaching career with the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995 to 2002. His work building that franchise was highlighted by a trip to the AFC Championship Game in 1999. He finished with a 68-60 record in Jacksonville.
The finalists will be announced in January 2027, with the enshrinement ceremony scheduled for August 2027 in Canton, Ohio. Coughlin remains widely regarded as one of the most respected head coaches of his era, and election to the Hall of Fame would represent a well-earned achievement.
