The New York Giants have had a rough week. They went west on Monday night, got manhandled by the Los Angeles Rams on national television, and lost their starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart, for the season with a torn meniscus.
Other players got hurt as well. Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Burns suffered a low ankle sprain, and safety Tyler Nubin sustained a calf injury. Both are listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.
In addition, All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas tweaked a groin muscle and has been limited all week.
"I'm good. After the game, a little sore, but I got to move around today," Thomas told reporters on Friday.
Thomas practiced on a limited basis on Friday after being held out on Thursday, which he said was more
for precautionary reasons. He plans on playing this week against the Titans.
Thomas did not miss any time in Monday's game. He played 100 percent of the Giants' offensive snaps, but said he was hurt on the team's final possession in the fourth quarter.
"That's when it happened, that last drive. I was just trying to anchor. It should be alright," he said. "I wasn't worried. I was planning to go back out there. Obviously, didn't have that opportunity, but the mindset was to wrap it up and go."
With Dart gone, Thomas and his line mates will now be blocking for backup Jameis Winston. It's a new world, but Thomas is confident the Giants can still be successful.
"It's been good so far," he said. "Like you said, it is different. The way we practice, we only get reps with the one quarterback. I haven't gotten a lot of reps with Jameis, even going back to last year, only in the games that he played. But he's a veteran quarterback. He can play at a really high level. He's smart. Like I said, it's a lot on the system and on the quarterback to make the adjustments and make the right calls, but I know he's capable of doing that."
Thomas is a seasoned veteran who goes about his business like a professional. He knows what needs to be done. He's seen too much adversity in his career to let any further setbacks knock him off his game.
