The New York Giants pulled off a significant upset on Sunday when they took down the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium in overtime, improving to 4-2-1 on the season.
After taking a 14-6 lead in the second quarter, the Giants' trend of ending first halves poorly this season continued when they gave up a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the Texans to tie it up before the half. To make matters worse, the Giants got into field goal range and kicker Dominic Zvada missed his second field goal attempt of the game prior to halftime.
All of a sudden, despite the Giants being set to receive the ball at the start of the second half and the score tied at 14 in a game where they came in as two-possession road underdogs, the momentum had completely
shifted in the Texans' favor.
It was then, at halftime, that Abdul Carter took the lead to speak up and motivate his teammates, telling them to empty the tank.
John Harbaugh says that Abdul Carter gave a speech at halftime and told teammates to “empty the tank” — have nothing left after the fourth quarter.

Another step in leadership for Carter. #Giants
"As Abdul Carter told the guys at halftime, 'No matter what, empty the tank. No matter what, come back in here with nothing left,' and that's what they did," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters following the game.
Carter has really stepped up in a big way since the Giants lost elite pass rusher Brian Burns a few weeks ago. Certainly, Carter's sack total is nothing that jumps off the stat sheet. However, Carter has been drawing multiple holding calls in every game over the last few weeks.
Despite giving up a touchdown at the end of each half during regulation, the Giants defense had a very good day overall, holding the Texans to just 237 yards on the day, and that was without Jevon Holland and Greg Newsome III.
Now, with the win secured and the Giants sitting at the top of the division at 4-2-1, the team will have plenty of time to refill the tank during the bye week.
With defensive veterans Brian Burns and Tremaine Edmunds now out for the year, Carter stepping up as a leader and delivering a powerful speech at halftime is certainly something the Giants will need from their current players for the rest of the season.
