The New York Giants may have found the missing piece to the offense amid their 28-20 upset win over the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium.
Coming over from the Baltimore Ravens in free agency this offseason, the 26-year-old tight end was expected to be a featured member of the passing attack. He exceeded expectations during the victory on Sunday night against the Cowboys.
In what was a near flawless Giants debut for the $40 million tight end, Likely earned our "Player of the Game" honors after his spectacular outing.
Likely finished the surprising win with eight receptions on eight targets for 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
It was the type of performance that showed the Giants just what they've been missing with a reliable option in the middle
of the field. Likely provided second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart with a solid target who could make things happen after the catch.
Dart was also in consideration for this nomination given his spectacular evening. He finished 23-of-29 passing for 234 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers and a 132.4 passer rating. He also added 11 carries for 54 rushing yards on the ground.
But Likely's performance deserved a shoutout given what he will clearly mean to the Giants in the middle of the field and the red zone.
If this is a sign of things to come, Giants fans should be excited.
