The NFL fined two Washington Commanders players a combined $24,478 for unnecessary roughness in their 27-27 Week 5 tie against the New York Giants.
Edge rusher Dorance Armstrong received a $11,941 fine for a facemask with 9:47 remaining in the first quarter. Officials flagged the play for 15 yards, and Giants wide receiver Darnell Mooney was injured on the sequence.

The call contributed to Washington’s nine accepted penalties totaling 69 yards. Video review left some ambiguity over whether Armstrong grabbed the facemask or the shoulder pads, but the league upheld the unnecessary roughness classification.
Cornerback Amik Robertson was fined $12,537 for a low
block with 4:46 left in overtime. Unlike Armstrong’s infraction, Robertson was not flagged on the field. The play occurred during the extra period that ended without a winner after both teams squandered late opportunities.
This is Robertson’s second fine of the season after he was previously assessed $11,941 for unnecessary roughness in Washington’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Commanders’ disciplinary issues factored into a game that left the Giants with a hard-earned tie despite the brief injury to Mooney and the extra-session fouls. League officials review plays for additional sanctions even when no flag is thrown, and these fines fall under standard unnecessary roughness guidelines. Players may appeal.
The fines were announced as part of the NFL’s weekly accountability measures from the October 11 contest. No Giants players were cited for Week 5 infractions.
