The New York Giants released defensive tackle Sam Roberts on Monday, a corresponding move that cleared a roster spot for the signing of defensive back J.T. Woods.
Roberts signed a one-year contract with New York in March following a stint with the Atlanta Falcons. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound interior lineman never appeared in a game for the Giants. He missed the entire offseason program while recovering from surgery for an undisclosed injury and opened training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Roberts was activated on July 28 after passing his physical but remained limited throughout the early stages of camp at The Greenbrier.
A sixth-round selection by the New England Patriots in the 2022 NFL draft out of Northwest Missouri State,
Roberts played in 20 career games with two starts before joining the Giants. During five appearances with Atlanta in 2025, he tallied 18 tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack.
The release ends Roberts' brief tenure with the Giants as the club evaluates its defensive depth during training camp.
