Malik Nabers said the New York Giants' receiver room welcomed Odell Beckham Jr. after the veteran earned his roster spot.
"He's put in great work. He showed every attribute and everything that he wanted to be a Giant," Nabers told reporters on Monday. "He wanted to come back and he had unfinished business. They didn't make it easy for him. He earned everything he got. He put great film on tape. He was a great leader. Good things get rewarded to good people. To have him in there is definitely a good choice."
Beckham has taken on a mentor role during camp, checking on Nabers' rehab and sharing tips from his own recoveries.
"He's come up many times asking me about the rehab process, trying to give me tips that helped him," Nabers said. "Telling me I
can do more. 'You can do more.' He wanted to see me back out there. He's excited to see me run routes and I'm excited to also be on the side of him playing. I used to watch him when I was younger."
Nabers was not a football fan growing up. Beckham's dances and one-handed catches are what first pulled him in.
"He kind of was the base person that literally made me start watching football, just the dances, the one-handers," Nabers said. "He was the main person. Just for him being here right now, in the same room as me, it's surreal."
That path from watching Beckham as a kid to sharing a locker room with him is why the roster call landed well in the receiver room.
