The New York Giants began the cutdown process on Saturday evening, releasing eight players as the first step toward Sunday’s 6:00 p.m. ET deadline to reach a 53-man roster.
The initial group included cornerback Ugo Amadi, running back Damon Bankston, tight end Josiah Deguara, defensive lineman Leki Fotu, wide receivers Isaiah Hodgins and Kobe Prentice, offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes and linebacker Anfernee Orji.
The moves came one day after New York closed the preseason with a 23-6 victory over the Jets.
Head coach John Harbaugh said more decisions remain.
“We’re in the process of that right now. We’ll make a few here in the next hour or two. And then tomorrow we’ll still have some. We won’t be finished today,” he told reporters.

trim from 90 players to 53 by Sunday evening. The waiver claiming period expires at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, after which teams can assemble 17-man practice squads. The Giants are fifth in the claiming order.
New York also added defensive lineman C.J. Okoye from Baltimore in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick. Harbaugh called Okoye a physical interior presence who can occupy A- and B-gaps, stop the run, and push the pocket.
The Giants open the regular season September 13 at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.
