The New York Giants (3-1-1) will host the New Orleans Saints (1-4) this Sunday for a Week 6 matchup at MetLife Stadium.
With that, it provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal some talent from the Saints' roster in hopes of addressing some pressing needs for Big Blue.
It's been an eventful season for the Giants thus far, and while they've managed to remain competitive, there are still areas of the roster that could use some attention. One of those positions is center, where the Giants have uncertainty despite recent improvement.
That makes Saints center Erik McCoy an intriguing option.
Of course, we considered wide receiver Chris Olave as an elite running mate alongside Malik Nabers. Edge rusher Chase Young
was also in consideration given his resurgent season.
McCoy has been a fixture in New Orleans since entering the NFL as a second-round pick in 2019. The veteran has also earned Pro Bowl recognition, giving the Giants an opportunity to add an experienced presence to the middle of their offensive line.
According to Pro Football Focus, McCoy has posted a 74.0 overall grade through Week 5, ranking fifth among qualified centers. His 79.3 pass-blocking grade ranks first at the position, and he has yet to allow a sack this season.
New York has turned to Bryan Hudson at center after John Michael Schmitz missed time, and head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Hudson would retain the starting job for Week 6. Schmitz remains in the plans, but the situation still leaves questions about the long-term outlook at the position.
Hudson has performed well in his opportunities, but adding McCoy would give the Giants a proven veteran with the ability to improve both pass protection and the running game. With Jameis Winston under center, solidifying the interior offensive line should be a priority.
In a small sample size of two games, Hudson's 78.1 pass-blocking grade ranks second among centers behind only McCoy.
Acquiring McCoy would likely require a significant investment, particularly given his contract and value to the Saints. Still, if the Giants want to make life easier for their quarterback and establish more consistency up front, he would be a worthwhile target.
What say you, Giants fans? Would you steal McCoy, or a different Saints player entirely?
