Darius Slayton is heading to Indianapolis.
The veteran wide receiver, who spent his first seven NFL seasons with the New York Giants, is signing with the Colts, Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reports. The move comes after Alec Pierce aggravated a heel injury in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, leaving Indianapolis in need of a perimeter target who can stretch the field.

Slayton and Daniel Jones arrived together in the 2019 NFL draft. The Giants drafted Jones in the first
round; they selected Slayton in the fifth.
The two developed an immediate connection. Slayton led the Giants in receiving yards in four of his first five seasons and finished his Giants career with 296 receptions for 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns. His 15.0 yards-per-catch average made him one of the more reliable deep threats on those rosters.
The Giants released Slayton on September 7 after he had undergone core-muscle surgery in the spring. At 29, he still offers size, speed, and a known rapport with Jones, who is now in his second year as the Colts’ starter.
Indianapolis already added Keenan Allen late in the offseason. Slayton gives the offense another outside option while Pierce recovers and while tight end Tyler Warren and running back Jonathan Taylor try to stay featured.
Slayton’s reunion with Jones is a clean football story: Two 2019 draftees picking up an old connection in a new city after New York decided it was time to move on from both.
The Giants and Colts will play in Week 12.
