After a massive double-digit upset victory on Sunday (+10.5 at kickoff), the New York Giants continue to rank among the biggest surprises of the NFL season as they lead the NFC East. They enter their bye week with a 4-2-1 record and a game-and-a-half lead in the division.
Despite that lead, BetMGM does not currently list the Giants as favorites to win the NFC East.
The Dallas Cowboys (3-4) hold the best odds at +120, just ahead of the Giants (4-2-1) at +125. The Washington Commanders (1-4-1) sit third at +700, while the Philadelphia Eagles (2-5) have the longest odds at +1500.
The Giants are 1-0-1 against the division so far, following a Week 1 win over the Cowboys and a dramatic tie against the Commanders in Week 5. They return from the bye in Week 9
against the Eagles, at which point they will have completed half of their division schedule.
With 10 games remaining, the Giants will face five opponents with records above .500, with three of those coming at home at MetLife Stadium. By comparison, the Cowboys will play only three such teams over their final 10 games.
The Cowboys and Giants will meet again in Dallas for the Week 18 season finale, a game that could decide the division.
The Giants will need to keep executing and continue improving with J.J. McCarthy under center if they are to claim the division title. They have been doubted all season, a reality they have grown comfortable with and one that has helped fuel them so far.
