New York Giants linebacker Brian Burns is believed to have torn the ACL in his right knee, reports NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Burns left Sunday’s 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans in the fourth quarter after going down at MetLife Stadium. He punched the turf, could not put weight on the right leg, and was helped off by teammates Aaron Stinnie and Andrew Thomas. Trainers worked on the knee on the field before Burns went straight to the locker room rather than the medical tent.
Burns had entered the game already compromised. Burns suffered a left ankle sprain late in last Monday’s loss at the Los Angeles Rams, missed every practice on the short week, and was listed as questionable. The Giants still dressed him and used
him in a situational pass-rush role on a wet field.
After the game, head coach John Harbaugh said Burns would undergo an MRI and that there was “some hope” the injury was not as severe as it first appeared. Subsequent reporting indicated a much more serious result.
Burns, 28, was a second-team All-Pro last season after posting a career-high 16.5 sacks. He had not missed a game since New York acquired him in 2024. The Giants already lost quarterback Jaxson Dart to a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. Their pass rush entered Sunday with one sack through two games and will now lean more on Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter.
The team had not issued an official diagnosis as of Monday morning. A torn ACL would almost certainly end Burns’ 2026 season.
