The New York Giants are signing veteran quarterback Jake Haener, reports NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Haener will take the roster spot of cornerback Sam Webb, who retired on Sunday. The 27-year-old worked out for the Giants late last month and joins the team after recent tryouts with the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans.
Haener, a native of Danville, California, was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round (No. 127 overall) of the 2023 NFL draft. A three-year starter at Fresno State after transferring from Washington, he earned first-team All-Mountain West honors as a senior in 2022 and second-team recognition the previous year.
In his only season of significant NFL action, Haener appeared in eight games for the Saints in 2024 with
one start. He completed 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He spent most of 2025 bouncing between the Saints’ practice squad and active roster before signing a reserve/future contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in February 2026. Kansas City waived him in May.
The addition gives the Giants an experienced camp arm and immediate depth at quarterback. Haener has already reported and will practice with the team on Monday.
At 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, Haener brings toughness and familiarity with multiple offensive systems as he looks to carve out a role in East Rutherford.
