Former NFL Players Association president Domonique Foxworth did not hold back on Monday when addressing New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart’s frustration over another trip to the blue medical tent.
Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Foxworth called Dart’s reaction “insane” and “stupid” after the second-year signal-caller was evaluated for a concussion late in the first quarter of Saturday’s preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
On second-and-10, Vikings safety Jay Ward blitzed untouched after running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. missed his blocking assignment, delivering a hard hit that flattened Dart.
The quarterback stayed on the ground for extra seconds before heading to the tent. He was cleared quickly, returned for a couple of plays, and immediately
scrambled left to find rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields for a 15-yard touchdown.
Dart later expressed his ongoing annoyance.
“I really respect the rules and the thought the NFL has in keeping players healthy,” he said. “But at the same time, I’m still puzzled by it just feeling like every time I get hit, I find my way in there.”
Foxworth acknowledged Dart’s linebacker-like mentality but insisted the evaluation was the correct call in a preseason game, especially given Dart’s history of frequent trips to the tent. Dart has been evaluated for a concussion six times since the start of his career in 2025, with only one confirmed diagnosis.
“All quarterbacks have to change something about the way that they play,” Foxworth said. “I think Jaxson Dart’s personality is a thing that I find a little bit more unique and interesting, that he puts this kind of linebacker mentality to the game. And I think it’s insane that he’s bothered by going to the blue tent in a preseason game when he got blasted and stayed on the ground for extra seconds. If that’s what he’s pushing back on, that’s just stupid.”
Giants head coach John Harbaugh offered a more understanding view. He called Dart’s frustration understandable and suggested the quarterback’s past may be influencing the league’s caution, while stressing that the protection failure should never have occurred.
Critics of Foxworth’s stance note that Dart did not appear to take a direct blow to the head on the play and has made more trips to the blue tent than any other NFL quarterback dating back to last preseason. The tension between aggressive play and heightened scrutiny continues as Dart works to adjust without losing the edge that defines him.
