The New York Giants activated wide receiver Braxton Berrios and linebacker Malik Harrison from the practice squad on Monday, using standard elevations ahead of their Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.
It is the second straight game-day call-up for both players. New York used the same pair last week for the season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Berrios move follows the plan head coach John Harbaugh outlined after final cuts. Released at the 53-man deadline and signed back to the practice squad, the veteran returner was always ticketed for regular availability.
"The plan with Berrios is to treat him like he's playing on the 53," Harbaugh said. "We have an opportunity, the way that you can work the roster
now, to do that. And that's the plan."
Berrios is expected to handle punt returns and add receiver depth. The eight-year veteran signed with the Giants this offseason after the club lost its primary return option to a torn ACL.
Harrison, a 2020 third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens out of Ohio State, joined New York's practice squad on Sept. 3 after Pittsburgh released him. The 28-year-old spent five seasons under Harbaugh in Baltimore and is projected to work on special teams, with extra linebacker depth available while Micah McFadden is listed as questionable with a neck injury.
NFL rules allow three standard elevations per player before a team must sign him to the 53-man roster. This is elevation No. 2 for both.
The pair gives the Giants two experienced practice-squad additions for the primetime road game.
