New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux hasn't exactly converted his worth into gold over the last two NFL seasons, but he's likely to recalibrate after surviving recent trade rumors.
The Giants incurred a season-ending injury to outside linebacker Brian Burns in Week 3, thus shifting the relentless Thibodeaux trade rumors away into a need for his talents.
At 6-foot-5, Thibodeaux offers a physical stature that can and will be disruptive for opposing offenses at the line of scrimmage. The Giants did not yield a single sack versus the Tennessee Titans in their 12-7 victory this past Sunday, but Thibodeaux was credited with one assisted tackle.
Currently, the Giants rank at No. 17 in the NFL in opponent yards per game, a symbolic statistic that
offers insight into defensive efficiency. While Thibodeaux may not offer the explosive speed that Burns innately has, his stature can allow him to be a force in the run defense throughout the 2026 NFL season.
Last season, Thibodeaux played just 10 games and was limited by a lingering shoulder injury. His restoration could be pivotal under new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, and the united output of Wilson's defense on Sunday should yield fair optimism.
Still, Thibodeaux won't deploy sufficiently versus opponents with hybrid tight ends, and his inconsistencies as a cover linebacker (42.5 coverage grade in 2025) are something Wilson will have to work around.
Ultimately, the Giants should pat themselves on the back for retaining Thibodeaux on the roster. Hopefully, Wilson can find a way to reignite Thibodeaux's projected talents and make him a force for the team in the pass rush as the season progresses.
