Much has been said of the New York Giants' core of young offensive stars. Fans have been excited about seeing their "triplets" -- quarterback Jaxson Dart, running back Cam Skattebo, and wide receiver Malik Nabers -- on the field at the same time this season.
They were cheated last season when Nabers was lost for the season to a knee injury after four games, and Skattebo fractured his ankle in Week 8.
Both players returned after difficult rehabs this offseason. With Dart set to take the next step in his young career, expectations were high.
But on Monday night, in the first quarter of the Giants' 28-6 loss to the Rams in Los Angeles, the Rams' pass rush squashed Dart, bending his knee back awkwardly. He left the field under his own power, and the talk
was that it might be a short-term injury.
On Monday, after further testing, doctors deemed the injury more serious. Dart is now facing season-ending surgery. The triplets are now twins again.
Giant fans have been suffering for 12 years, and it appears they will have to suffer a 13th. They will also likely have to wait until 2027 to see their triplets in full swing finally.

Head coach John Harbaugh did not confirm or deny whether Dart's season was over, saying there's more to be done before any announcement is made.
"When the decision gets made, then we'll talk," he said about the quarterback plans. "We'll talk about that conversation."
Either way, Harbaugh is still full steam ahead. He called Dart's injury a "gut punch."
"I can tell you this," he added. "If you get punched in the gut, are you going down? Are you going down? Are you going to crumple to the ground, as Jack Harbaugh would say, like a sack of sour apples and just fall to the ground and just rot away and wither away into the dust. Is that what you're going to do?"
His message to the team is a positive one
"We’ve got a game to play. We’ve got a really good football team. We’ve got a football team that's going to be way better than it is right now. And that's what we're going to be attacking. So, looking forward to it. Can't wait to get on the practice field tomorrow," he said.
Jameis Winston, who finished out the game on Monday night under center, will be the team's new starter. They have no other quarterbacks on their roster. Jake Haener is on the practice squad. He'll likely be elevated, but the Giants will be looking for quarterback depth and help this week for sure.
