Former New York Giants first-round pick Jason Pierre-Paul reached out to the franchise Monday, hours after reports that edge rusher Brian Burns is believed to have torn the ACL in his right knee.

Burns left in the fourth quarter at MetLife Stadium, punched the turf, and could not put weight on the injured leg. He had already been limited by a left ankle sprain suffered the week before at the Los Angeles Rams and was listed as questionable.
Head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that Burns would undergo an MRI and that there was “some hope” the injury was not as severe as it first appeared. Subsequent reporting from NFL Network and ESPN indicated otherwise. A torn ACL will land Burns on season-ending injured reserve (IR)
and leave the Giants in need of another edge rusher.
New York’s pass rush entered Sunday with one sack through two games and will now lean more heavily on Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter.
Pierre-Paul made a longer public pitch in April, telling the Giants he was still available. The team drafted him 15th overall in 2010. He spent eight seasons in New York, helped win Super Bowl XLVI, later captured another title with Tampa Bay, and played for Harbaugh in Baltimore in 2022.
Odell Beckham Jr. is already back on the roster. A short-term reunion with Pierre-Paul would add a two-time Super Bowl champion and familiar veteran to a thin edge group.
