New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo should avoid significant injury after feeling something in his hamstring on a 42-yard overtime run that helped secure a 27-21 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported on Monday that all indications are the second-year back should be OK, a rare positive for a Giants team that often has injured reserve (IR) candidates after games, particularly with a bye this weekend.

All indications this morning are he should be OK, especially with the team on a bye this weekend. A rare, welcome instance for NYG to not have an IR candidate after a game. pic.twitter.com/eHtBM0CTse

After the Week 7 win, Skattebo told ESPN’s Dan Graziano he did not intend to slide on the play that set up Devin Singletary’s game-winning 30-yard touchdown. He felt something in his hamstring and knew the Giants were in field-goal range, so he went down at the Houston 30. He noted the bye week’s timing was fortunate.
The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported that Skattebo avoided straining the muscle.
The carry was the longest of Skattebo’s career and highlighted a bounce-back outing in which he rushed 17 times for a career-high 124 yards and a touchdown. It followed a week in which he received zero carries against the New Orleans Saints after an overtime fumble versus the Washington Commanders in Week 5.
The Giants improved to 4-2-1, leading the NFC East, and will have the bye before traveling to Philadelphia on November 8.
The extra rest should allow Skattebo to return healthy to the backfield as New York aims to maintain its divisional edge.
