The New York Giants already knew Week 2 at SoFi Stadium would be a measuring-stick game. Aaron Donald's return from retirement makes it something closer to a survival test.
Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Donald is coming back to the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year, $20 million deal with playoff incentives that can reach $30 million.

John Harbaugh has seen this movie. As Baltimore's coach in 2023, he called Donald "probably the greatest to ever play at that position" and said an offense must know where he is at all times and get as many bodies on him as possible.
That assignment now falls to Andrew Thomas, Jermaine Eluemunor, Francis Mauigoa, John Michael Schmitz, and the rest of a Giants line still finding its identity.
Expect extra attention inside. Doubles and chips on Donald, slide protections toward Garrett, quicker releases from quarterback Jaxson Dart, and a heavy dose of extra blockers in the run game. Occupying Donald is the only way to keep the pocket intact and give the young quarterback a chance. Anything less and the Rams' star-studded front will dictate the night.
The Giants have preached physicality and discipline under Harbaugh. Week 2 will show whether that holds up against one of the most disruptive interior players in NFL history, now paired with an elite edge rusher.
